USB C

In recent years, the USB-C port has appeared on many devices, such as smartphones, laptops and some monitors and is fast becoming  the reference in its field. The arrival of USB-C is a mini revolution,  because for the first time in the history of electronics and computing, a single cable can perform a multitude of tasks.  But what exactly is this connector? What is it capable of? What is the future of this new technology? ERARD can enlighten you on the possibilities of this new standard of connectivity.

WHAT IS USB-C ?

The USB Type-C is the new standardized format for cables and connectors developed by the USB Implementers Forum. Multifunctional, it is capable of transmitting data, video or energy through the same cable.

How do you recognize USB-C?

In order to fit increasingly compact devices, the USB-C cable's connector is smaller and thinner than previous USB cables,  and features rounded contours and a hollow center. It also has the advantage of being reversible and works in either direction.

What makes a ‘good’ USB-C cable?

A good USB-C cable should have many features to ensure reliable performance and long-term durability. Here are some of the important features to look for:
1. Protocol Support: Make sure the USB-C cable supports fast protocols (USB 3.1, USB 3.2, USB 4, and Thunderbolt) if you plan to use high-speed data transfers or fast charging.
2. Suitable Length: Choose a USB-C cable length that suits your needs. Too short can limit flexibility of use, while a cable that is too long can result in loss of signal or power.
3. Quality Materials: Look for USB-C cables made with quality materials for added durability.
4. Reinforced Connectors: USB-C connectors need to be reinforced to withstand heavy use.
5. Electrical protection: The Emark function (Chipset found in all USB-C cables with a charging capacity greater than 60W) acts as device protection. The built-in chipset sets the possible current and voltage capacities of the cable.

In summary, a good USB-C cable should be compatible, durable, made with quality materials, reinforced at connection points, and offer electrical protection features, while meeting your specific needs in terms of length and transfer speed.
